Introduction

Argentina has a comprehensive hazardous waste law (24.051), but provinces are free to use their own legislation instead and several key provinces (including PBA) have done so, creating a chaotic headache for companies operating nationally. SDSyPA is about to propose a type of federal preemption bill to address this problem. A Resolution exists on recycling of electrical accumulators (car batteries, batteries used for UPS, etc.). SDSyPA is working on a Resolution on "universal wastes" that at a minimum would interpret producer responsibility and recycling requisites for batteries and piles, fluorescent lamps and printer cartridges, but may also include other products containing heavy metals.
