E-Waste Recycling Programs in the NewsApril 22, 2008 Colombia - Product Take-BackColombia, already ahead of the curve in Latin America for its national program for cell phone take-back (see Link), continues to forge ahead at the national and even municipal level with plans to address e-wastes. First, the national environmental agency (Minambiente) initiated a pilot program to collect used computers at different supermarkets for reuse in educational programs. Separately, a draft resolution in the City of Bogotá calls for municipal collection of household e-wastes as a precursor to holding manufacturers and importers liable for its management (Draft Resolution 184/2008). Given these and other indicators, it seems only a matter of time before e-wastes are more comprehensively addressed through governmental action.
