Cell Phone Take-Back Program Launched in ColombiaDecember 31, 2007 Colombia - Batteries, Hazardous Waste, Product Take-BackEarlier this month, the Minister of the Environment for Colombia held a press conference to announce the official launch of a cell phone and battery take-back program operated in conjunction with industry. According to the agency (Minambiente), this campaign is the first of its kind in Latin America to involve almost all of the operators and manufacturers active in Colombia. As reported earlier (see Link below), the cell phone sector entered an Agreement with the government to take-back discarded cell phone batteries, although in practice the program appears to cover cell phones as well.
